چکیده

Thinning is the removal of contour pixels/points of connected components in an image to produce their skeleton with retained connectivity and structural properties. The output requirements of a thinning procedure often vary with application. This paper proposes a sequential algorithm that is very easy to understand and modify based on application to perform the thinning of multi-dimensional binary patterns. The algorithm was tested on 2D and 3D patterns and showed very good results. Moreover, comparisons were also made with two of the state-of-the-art methods used for 2D patterns. The results obtained prove the validity of the procedure. Keywords—array slicing, skeletonization, erosion, localneighborhood, connected component

Exploring multi-dimensional sequential patterns across multi-dimensional multi-sequence databases

Existing multi-dimensional sequential pattern mining methods only discover multi-dimensional sequential pattern in databases involving one sequential dimension. Since multi-dimensional sequential patterns may exist in databases containing more than one sequential dimension, in this paper, we present algorithm PSeq-MIDim for mining multi-dimensional sequential patterns from multiple sequential d...

Optimization of Dimensional Deviations in Wax Patterns for Investment Casting

Investment casting is a versatile manufacturing process to produce high quality parts with high dimensional accuracy. The process begins with the manufacture of wax patterns. The dimensional accuracy of the model affects the quality of the finished part. The present study investigated the control and optimization of dimensional deviations in wax patterns. A mold for an H-shaped wax pattern was ...

Sufficient Conditions for Order-Independency in Sequential Thinning

The main issue of this paper is to introduce some conditions for templatebased sequential thinning that are capable of producing the same skeleton for a given binary image, independent of the visiting order of object points. As an example, we introduce two order-independent thinning algorithms for 2D binary images that satisfy these conditions.

An Order-Independent Sequential Thinning Algorithm

Thinning is a widely used approach for skeletonization. Sequential thinning algorithms use contour tracking: they scan border points and remove the actual one if it is not designated a skeletal point. They may produce various skeletons for different visiting orders. In this paper, we present a new 2-dimensional sequential thinning algorithm, which produces the same result for arbitrary visiting...

Order–independent Sequential Thinning in Arbitrary Dimensions

Skeletons are region based shape descriptors that play important role in shape representation. This paper introduces a novel sequential thinning approach for n-dimensional binary objects (n = 1, 2, 3, . . .). Its main strength lies in its order–independency, i.e., it can produce the same skeletons for any visiting orders of border points. Furthermore, this is the first scheme in this field that...
